WVU Medicine in Morgantown is recognized by the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) as an exemplary employer and partner as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October.

When I began as the DRS Employment Services Manager in March 2020, WVU Medicine was one of the first employers I connected with on a statewide level. The DRS Employment Services Unit developed a strong partnership with Jessica Hall and Seth Nelson, who work in the WVU Medicine Talent Acquisition Unit. Through this partnership, we began holding quarterly meetings to address any updates from both organizations, as well as barriers that DRS job seekers may be having throughout the onboarding process. As a result of this open line of communication, DRS job seekers gain better guidance from the Employment Services Unit, and WVU receives more qualified job applicants. WVU Medicine also participated in the DRS Employer Spotlight series and provided clear guidance on how to apply for vacant positions. DRS Employment Services ManagerDRS, an agency of the West Virginia Department of Commerce, is responsible for the federal vocational rehabilitation program in West Virginia, which enables and empowers West Virginians with disabilities to work and to live independently. DRS helps adults, as well as high school and college students with disabilities set work goals and develop career plans to overcome employment-related barriers so they can go to work or maintain current employment. DRS assists West Virginia’s businesses and employers by being their primary employment resource to include or to retain people with disabilities in their workforce.
