The West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) recognized WVVA in Bluefield as an exemplary employer and partner as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October 2024.
DRS recognized WVVA for demonstrating excellence in its diverse hiring practices by creating an inclusive workplace and for its positive contributions within our communities.
WVVA partnered with DRS to provide a job shadowing experience for a DRS consumer who is a high school student and interested in a broadcasting career. The student got to see the technical, behind-the-camera aspects of producing and putting on a news broadcast, as well as an on-air interview. The student was also treated to lunch by the employer. WVVA also provided a paid internship for a DRS consumer who was completing her degree at WVU. The consumer was allowed to work in various areas of broadcasting and was hired for a weekend position by the station after obtaining her degree.
Nominated by DRS Employment Specialist Randall Coleman, WVVA is a valued partner for providing work-based learning experiences and a long-term job opportunity for a DRS consumer.
