The West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) recognized Piggly Wiggly in Parkersburg as an exemplary employer and partner as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October 2024.
DRS recognized Piggly Wiggly for demonstrating excellence in its diverse hiring practices by creating an inclusive workplace and for its positive contributions within our communities.
Piggly Wiggly has a long-standing relationship with community rehabilitation programs in the Parkersburg area and several DRS consumers have been placed throughout their three locations in Parkersburg and Vienna. They have provided many assessment and training opportunities for DRS consumers on a short-term basis as well as long-term employment. They understand that some DRS consumers need extra training, additional support and accommodations, which they provide with tact and appreciation for the unique needs to help consumers maintain their employment.
Nominated by DRS Employment Specialist Jennifer Surface, Piggly Wiggly is a valued partner for their patience and understanding of DRS and our consumers, which often results in long-term employment opportunities.
DRS, an agency of the West Virginia Department of Commerce, is responsible for the federal vocational rehabilitation program in West Virginia, which enables and empowers West Virginians with disabilities to work and to live independently.
