The West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) recognized The Peddler in Huntington as an exemplary employer and partner as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October 2023.
DRS recognized The Peddler for demonstrating excellence in its diverse hiring practices by creating an inclusive workplace and for its positive contributions within our communities.
The Peddler provided a job opportunity to a DRS consumer through DRS’ on-the-job training program.
Nominated by DRS Rehabilitation Counselor Leslie Scragg, The Peddler was enthusiastic to provide an opportunity for a person with a disability to gain hands-on experience and was understanding of the individual’s need for accommodations to perform necessary work tasks.
DRS, an agency of the West Virginia Department of Commerce, is responsible for the federal vocational rehabilitation program in West Virginia, which enables and empowers West Virginians with disabilities to work and to live independently. DRS helps people with disabilities, ages 14 and up, set work goals and develop career plans to overcome employment-related barriers so they can go to work or maintain current employment. DRS also assists West Virginia’s businesses and employers by being their primary employment resource to include or to retain people with disabilities in their workforce.
