The West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) has recognized Riesbeck’s Food Market of Elm Grove as a Distinguished Employer. DRS presented the award to store manager Jentry Shultz in honor of the location’s commitment to diverse hiring practices, particularly its support of area youth and adults, and its positive contributions to the community.

Riesbeck’s has a long tradition of community focus. The family-owned business traces its roots back to 1925, when Margaret (Schumacher) Riesbeck opened a small “corner grocery” in Woodsfield, Ohio to support her five children after the passing of her husband. Just seven years later, in 1932, “Grandma” Riesbeck expanded into the first official Riesbeck’s Food Market, building on a larger property where the store still stands today.

Now, 100 years later, Riesbeck’s Food Markets proudly operates 17 locations across Ohio and West Virginia. In March 2025, the company celebrated its centennial anniversary, honoring both its legacy and its future as an employee-owned business, with the fourth generation of the Riesbeck family actively participating in company operations and serving on the board of directors.
